CVT Transmission Front Cover

This is a five-station assembly line for the front portion of a tractor transmission. The system aids manual operation of 1-5 operators depending on production throughput requirements. Each station uses manual material handling, but assembly operations are electronically controlled to assure each step is completed before the operator can move on to the next. It assembles various tapered roller bearings, shafts, gear sets, oil tubes, and bearing carriers to the main casting assembly. Bearing preload is measured through shaft rolling torques which are critical for product quality.

Pinion Gear & Housing

This is a two-station assembly system for pinion shaft to the housing assembly for a line of wheel loaders for the construction industry. The first station is a servo pressing station which locates the cups in the pinion housing and the bearing cones on the pinion gear shaft. A second station tightens a nut on the pinion shaft to remove the endplay and set preload on the tapered roller bearings. Rolling torque is measured automatically to verify proper bearing preload. Each station uses manual material handling but assembly operations are electronically controlled to assure each step is completed before the operator can move on to the next. Bearing preload is measured through shaft rolling torques which are critical for product quality.

Axle Shafts & Housing

 

Titan has created several systems for assembling and testing large tractor rear axle assemblies. The system allows an operator to insert tapered roller bearings and shaft into a cast housing assembly. A pressing tool cart features the different gauge heads and assembly tools.  The Test Stand directs the operator where to put the axle shaft, where the bearings go on the shaft.  The shaft goes into the housing using an overhead crane. The system performs a comprehensive test of the axle, checking for rolling torque and  preload on the bearings.  The system also helps the operator select the right shims when compensation is required. The system walks the operator through the assembly process  to ensure that the axle is correctly assembled before it is connected to the tractor. The system features a hydraulic press to press the bearings onto the shaft.

Titan has built several different systems for assembling and testing hydraulic struts for heavy-duty mining trucks. Strut components are very heavy and large which make them difficult to handle safely. In addition, it is critical that the sensitive seal between the rod and the housing is not damaged during the insertion process. The front strut also serves as the pivot for the front wheel. The seal must hold pressure while the rod rotates.
